Question #1: Why Do I Need a Website?
For the past 8 years, the Internet has been the fastest growing medium in history. CNN, CNBC, The Wall Street Journal and virtually every major business publication in the world has reported on it. Internet usage among U.S. adults has skyrocketed from 9% in 1995 to 77% now, according to a poll from Harris Interactive. This growth in Internet usage is driving online retail sales to exceed $229 billion by 2010.
According to "World Internet Usage" in November 2007, approximately 71 percent of the US adult population used the Internet for commerce, information and communication. There are currently almost 100 Million registered domain names worldwide, and new domain names are now being registered at the rate of 20,000 PER WEEK!
But you don't have to read the Wall Street Journal to know just how radically the Internet has changed the way people do business and get information. Think about your own friends, family and business associates. Chances are many (or most) of them are already using the World Wide Web to pursue business, education and personal interests.
That's why tapping the tremendous power of the Internet for your organization or business is likely to be one of the most important steps you ever take. There are many ways to do it and it is our goal to make sure you do it right.
Question #2: I Want A Website...What Do I Do Now?
There are three steps to having a website and each has fees attached to it:
Step #1) First, you have to register a domain name (yourcompany.com) with one of the many registration services. Annual fees for domain registration can range from $34.99/month to $19.00/month based on the length of the registrations. For more details, click here.
Step #2) Once you get your domain name, you have to have someplace to store it on the World Wide Web. A domain server acts like a file cabinet...a place to store your files where people can come to view them. This service includes storing the files, setting up email addresses, etc. Each domain is provided with a unique server address, which is communicated to the domain registrar. That's how, when someone enters "yourcompany.com" in his/her browser, the Internet takes that person to our server and then to your files. For more details, click here.
Step #3) Once you get a domain and then identify a server, someone has to build webpages to put on the server. Naturally, there are fees for developing and maintaining the web pages. The cost of webpage design varies depending on the amount of content, capabilities, etc. For more details, click here.
